Stay at Home – Physical Therapy Telehealth
We understand that in the face of the current COVID-19 pandemic, many people wish to limit contact and are staying at home for all but the most essential reasons.
If this is the case for you – AND if you require Physical Therapy services, please read on…
USE YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE TO COVER STAY AT HOME TELEHEALTH PHYSICAL THERAPY
Physical Therapists are now authorized by nearly all health insurance companies to provide Telehealth Physical Therapy services.
WHAT IS TELEHEALTH and DOES IT WORK?
Telehealth is an appointment with a licensed Physical Therapist done remotely. You can use your home computer or tablet or a smartphone to attend your session at the scheduled time.
Basically it’s a one-on-one video call with a licensed PT. We’ll send you an email or text link to click. It’s simple & easy to do.
We use an approved secure online platform to schedule your session.
And it’s been researched and proven to be an effective method of getting Physical Therapy. Here’s some research that backs it up:
“Telerehabilitation Booster Sessions and Remote Patient Monitoring in the Management of Chronic Low Back Pain: A Case Series” [Physiother Theory Pract. 2018;34(5):393–402.] Conclusion: Patients with chronic low back pain may benefit from the use of telerehabilitation booster sessions and remote patient monitoring in long-term management of their condition
“Case Studies in Physical Therapy: Transitioning a “Hands-On” Approach Into a Virtual Platform” [Int J Telerehabil. 2018;10(1):37–50.] Conclusion: Patients who were assessed and treated for musculoskeletal disorders by a physical therapist via live, secure video reported improvements in movement and function in less than 4 visits and maintained this reduction after 3 months.
“Clinical Outcomes of Remote Asynchronous Telerehabilitation Are Equivalent to Traditional Therapy Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Control Study [J Telemed Telecare. 2017;23(2):239-247.] Conclusion: Patients who received rehab via real-time video after knee replacement reported similar clinical outcomes and satisfaction compared with patients who received traditional care.
DOES MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER TELEHEALTH?
At this writing – All major health insurances companies are covering Telehealth for a limited time (mimimally through May 31st 2020 and likely longer).
WHAT WILL THIS COST ME?
There will be NO cost to you for the Telehealth visit (this is true for all of the major carriers I’ve looked into including but not necessarily limited to Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Medicare, Cigna).
Health insurance companies (most major carriers) are fully waiving cost shares for video Telehealth visits. That means that you will have NO copay, coinsurance or deductible due for Telehealth visits in the specified time frame.
In the event that a payment is not waived and you have financial hardship, we can work with you to eliminate that payment.
WHY WOULD I BE INTERESTED IN TELEHEALTH?
1. You can do the visit from home. This is in good practice of keeping with #socialdistancing and to #flattenthecurve
2. If you are experiencing muscle or joint pain or problems but don’t want to (or can’t) go to a doctor’s office we can help with clinical assessment & decision making
3. You can ask questions and get answers from licensed Physical Therapists including home/self treatment and care options as well as home exercise programs and progression
4. You get 1-on-1 instruction from a licensed expert in a live interactive video on self myofascial/soft tissue techniques, therapeutic exercises, pain management & optimum healing strategies
